I purchased my Smith and Wesson 357 Magnum model 19 (Combat Magnum) in 1966. This is a great revolver! I chose this model over the Colt Python because of the double action of the Smith, in my opinion, was a lot smoother. I believe I paid between $400.00 and $500.00which was about the same price as the Python. Colt discontinued their model before S&W discontinued the model 19, so on the used market, the Python is selling for $1,800.00-$4,000.00. S&W has reintroduced the model 19 and if you are looking for an excellent revolver, I highly recommend the model 19. I posted videos of the old model 19 and the new model. I also posted one on the Colt Python.

As a Smith revolver fanatic since the 1970s, I have a long history of love with all the K,J,N frames. Sadly, Smith quality has diminished over the years and I would much rather purchase the old versions way before the new renditions. Sloppy metallurgy, less than good QA, poor attention to detail of the customer.
I recommend getting the older version…. better resale, better accuracy, better quality, sturdier frames… besides if you think today’s ammo is hot to erode these guns it’s really not the case.
Ammo has been dialed back across the ammo manufacturers these days due to crappy, cheap metals used

This is the prime time to scoop them up… investments you can enjoy… my 2 cents
