I have been asked my opinion on the best value of mid to low priced 9MM pistols, so I am re-posting a review from 2017.
This is my fourth and final striker 9MM comparison test. The Ruger American and the Glock 17 are excellent pistols and my ratings pertains to my experience with them.
Reliability: No problems with either pistol! Both manufactures have excellent reputations for reliability.
Ruger American (10) Glock 17 (10)
Trigger: I really like the trigger on the Ruger. My initial review on the Ruger was not great because I reviewed the pistol before it was broken in.
Ruger American (9.4) Glock 17 (9.0)
Grip: Both grips are very good.
Ruger American (9.3) Glock 17 (9.0)
Finish: I have to give the edge to the Ruger.
Ruger American (9.4) Glock 17 (9.0)
Price: Both pistols are very competitive in a very crowded marketplace.
Ruger American (9.2) Glock 17 (8.7)
Sights: Both pistols have good sights. I like the Ruger.
Accuracy:
The Ruger, in my opinion, is quite a bit better than the Glock. I posted some targets shooting rapid fire at thirty feet. The first is the Ruger, second is the Glock, the third is the Ruger on the left target and the Glock on the right target.
Ruger American (9.0) Glock 17 (8.0)
Total Scores:
Ruger American (65.5) Glock 17 (62.9)
Final comparison standings:
HK VP9 (65.9)
Ruger American (65.5)
Walther PPQ (64.1) Before September 15th (64.6)
CZ P-10C (64.0)
Springfield XDM (63.4)
Glock 17 (62.9)
Ruger SR9 (62.0)
Glock 34 (61.9)
Before I did comparison tests, I thought the Ruger American would finish last. It is really important to test and read reviews on pistols before purchasing one. I posted videos from You Tube reviewing The Ruger American and the Glock 17. My next review will be the beginning of comparison reviews of my hammer fired 9MMs.
