I want to share an event that I had Saturday at my shooting range. My daughter Laura and three of her friends came to learn and shoot. Laura is the only one that has experience with shooting. We started the session reading a gun safety pamphlet and followed up with a short discussion of the proper handling of guns. The next step was range time. We started with a Smith and Wesson Victory 22 shooting at a paper target. Each lady fired ten rounds and they did quite well shooting from 24 feet. The next step was firing a Springfield XDM 9MM. They each fired 2 magazines (38 rounds) at a silhouette target and did very well. Their confidence grew with each shot. I demonstrated shooting a Smith and Wesson Governor with 410 Shotgun 00 buck with 4 pellets. They each fired one shot and, I was pleasantly surprised that they were not intimidated. Finally I asked if anyone would like to shoot an AR15. They reacted like someone asked them to go to their first prom. They did exceptionally well shooting my Barrett AR. I think every household should have a gun for home protection and periodically I will have a class for women. I read a cartoon on Facebook that was quite interesting. A caller dialed 911 and said operator someone is in my home!-operator-do you have a gun? caller- I don’t believe in guns.- operator- I hope you believe in death because help is fifteen minutes out. I posted some photos. 1) Left to right is Laura, Michelle, Susan, and Ellen. 2) Michelle firing the XDM. 3) Ellen firing the Governor. 4) Susan firing the AR. 5) Laura firing the AR. 6) Silhouette target after 152 rounds of 9mm and ten 00 buck shots.
