This is one of my favorite 1911s and the first one that I purchased. I was a Military policeman in the Army, and the 1911 was my carry piece. Usually by the 15th of each month I was broke, so I spent quite a bit of time at the shooting range with my Army issue 1911. One day that I was shooting with a buddy of mine and, I told him that I always qualified sharpshooter, but just wasn’t good enough to qualify expert. He was on the Canal Zone Army pistol team, and he allowed me to shoot his gold cup match pistol. A night and day difference! I said I could qualify expert with this Colt Gold Cup Match pistol, so how can I get the Army to issue one to me. He said it’s very easy. Try out for the pistol team, and qualify expert with your Army issue 1911. He obviously was a smart ass.I purchased my Gold Cup around 1985, and I am sure the newer models have some changes. I really don’t know how they could improve this pistol. It has great balance, sights, and the trigger and trigger reset is spectacular. I posted videos from You Tube on some of the newer Colt Gold Cup Match because I couldn’t find any manufactured in the mid eighties.
Hey, Red I’ll bet “smart ass” name was Cpl. Fagan. George Murphy
